Sarah Palin did not appear Friday - as had been rumoured she might - at TLC's presentation at the semi-annual gathering of the TV Critics Association.

Palin's fans and casual TV viewers alike learned the premiere date of her new Mark Burnett-produced reality series, Sarah Palin's Alaska, though.

The eight-part documentary series will premiere Nov. 14, TLC president and general manager Eileen O'Neill announced.

Kate Gosselin will appear in the program, O'Neill added. Alaska will show Palin and the Gosselin family camping together.

In an earlier statement, the former governor of Alaska said her family enjoys Discovery Channel programming and that's why she agreed to do the series. TLC is part of the U.S. Discovery Communications' stable of cable channels. (The Canadian Discovery specialty channel is owned by CTV.)

TLC airs in both the U.S. and Canada.

Sarah Palin's Alaska is part travelogue, part adventure tale, as Palin, the series' host and prime participant, shows off the state's natural wonders. Alaska will focus on such themes as outdoor survival, glacial action, Alaskan food and the state's booming crab fishery.

Sarah Palin's Alaska marks Burnett's return to Discovery after a 14-year absence. Burnett co-produced Eco-Challenge in Pemberton, B.C., for the Discovery Channel in 1996. Eco-Challenge, a combination expedition race and companion reality-competition TV series, was the precursor for Burnett's reality hit Survivor. (original link)
