People's compelled vigilance is entirely misdirected....

So there I was, minding my own business, taking a leisurely stroll on a nice day in a small town. It is a town I used to live in, so I am familiar with the area and taking sideroads, which wind behind the major street in a suburban maze. While walking down a sideroad leading up to the major street, I notice a middle-age woman has come onto her porch. She's holding onto the railing and staring at me as I walk towards her house. I keep looking ahead, ignoring the woman as I walk past her house. Just as I do pass it, I hear a croaky female voice call out "There's a sidewalk on the other side!" I look out of the corner of my eye and can just make out the woman, now facing my back. I continue to ignore her, as I do the second bellowing and continue on my way.
I can just make out a deeper, maler voice asking something like "What's the problem?" and hear the croaky voice, much louder than before, announce "That guy's not using the sidewalk." a short pause, and then I hear her ask "Should we call someone?". I chuckled to myself as I reached the main road, waiting to cross it. As I start to cross, just out of my peripheral vision I can see the woman, followed by her husband five or six steps behind her, walking towards me. I continue to not at all acknowledge them or anything they said to, at or about me. When I am almost across the road, I hear the woman call out "That's not a crosswalk!"
I crossed the road, stopped, turned around, threw them a disgusted look and kept on walking, shaking my head in bewilderment.

The scariest part of all to me is not that there are people who literally have nothing to do so they feel compelled to enforce arbitrary bi-laws (and then being daft enough to break them without even seeming to realize it), it's the fact that one day there will be an agency for these kinds of people to call and report minor infractions to.

Not only that, we live in a time where almost every crime imaginable has become regular practice of those in power, and they're ready to lynch me for walking on the wrong side of the road.

It's already pretty mad out there's and it's going to get worse before it gets better, so do what you can to stay sane.

Canada
Internet providers not subject to Broadcasting Act

CBC News - 09 February, 2012

The CRTC and federal government of Canada would like to have official and ultimately, absolute control of the regulation of all internet based material, through which YOU,ME&US sift, at OUR leisure, each & every day.  This latest ruling on the subject appears to represent a blow struck for the supporters of internet freedom, though to be accurate, it really only exempts ISPs from directly incurring the wrath of governing authorities seeking to censor.  The direct and express routes to those found to offend will no doubt be happily provided, with illuminated arrows and blinking buzzers leading the way to the guilty.

Ethan A. Huff  Natural News - 23 January, 2012

The alleged health standards that the food and medical industries are being allowed to enforce on YOU,ME&US more closely resemble a direct inversion of the sentiment of letting US eat cake.

More Desecration Of Halifax Skies

Activist Post - 14 December, 2011

While many people rigidly cling to a worldview that undermines their potential and increasingly drains what little energy they have left, the deafening roar of short-sighted obedience drowns out daily images of the desecration of our skies which would otherwise go noticed.

9/11 Responders To Be Screened For Terrorism Ties

Michael McAuliff  The Huffington Post - 21 April, 2011

WASHINGTON -- A provision in the new 9/11 health bill may be adding insult to injury for people who fell sick after their service in the aftermath of the 2001 Al Qaeda attacks, The Huffington Post has learned.

The tens of thousands of cops, firefighters, construction workers and others who survived the worst terrorist assault in U.S. history and risked their lives in its wake will soon be informed that their names must be run through the FBI’s terrorism watch list, according to a letter obtained by HuffPost.

Any of the responders who are not compared to the database of suspected terrorists would be barred from getting treatment for the numerous, worsening ailments that the James Zadroga 9/11 Health And Compensation Law was passed to address.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators are being referred to the system of military commissions for trial, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday.

The decision by the Obama administration is an about-face from earlier plans to have the five go on trial in civilian federal court in New York.

Holder announced the earlier plan for trial in New York City in November 2009.

9/11 families call N.Y. memorial plan 'unacceptable'

The Associated Press - 04 April, 2011

Some relatives of those who died in the 9/11 terror attacks aren't happy with plans for a New York memorial.

They disagree with a plan to place more than nine-thousand unidentified pieces of human remains in an underground site at the National September 11th Memorial and Museum.

The unclaimed remains would be placed seven floors underground behind a wall with a quote from the poet Virgil.
