The latest rally to deplore police actions at last weekend’s G20 summit will be held Canada Day at Queen’s Park.

More than 1,000 people have already signed on to a Facebook group promoting the rally, and organizer Justin Arjoon — who belongs to an organization called Canadians Advocating Political Participation — says he expects five times that amount to show up.

The main goal of the rally is to urge a public inquiry into police conduct during the G20 summit, which saw a number of apparently peaceful protests raided by riot squads. Complaints have also flooded in over conditions at the temporary detention centre on Eastern Avenue, where detainees say they were denied access to adequate food and lawyers.

“[We] want to express anger and dismay at the violation of our civil liberties in the name of ‘security,’” Mr. Arjoon told the National Post this afternoon.

The rally, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, will march down to Dundas Street, across to Bay and up to College before returning to Queen’s Park.
